Ruth Eleanor Staples
Age 107, formerly of Ross Township. Her amazing journey began on April 15, 1911 in Bellevue and ended September 5, 2018 in Zelienople. She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. Staples Jr. and Katherine Batts Staples, and her brother, William H. Staples III, who was 7 years older. She graduated from Bellevue High School and earned both Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Spanish from the University of Pittsburgh. She taught Americanization classes to eager immigrants at night school and Spanish to young ladies at Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham University). She later joined with Cecelia Busch to establish Berkeley Hills Gardens - a flower and gift specialty shop on Thompson Run Road. She retired at age 65 from the Elementary Instructional Materials Center of the North Hills School District. After retirement she discovered counted cross stitch and her needle flew! As a customer at The Pine Needle needlework shop in Wexford, she became friends with owners Ruth Benko and her daughter Diane Boffo. Visitors to the shop knew and admired "Miss Staples" for the many wonderful pieces of her exquisite work that were displayed there. She lived her last 15 years at Passavant Community in Zelienople where she flourished living independently and then with assistance. She aged gracefully and with dignity under the kindest of care from Personal Care aides and staff, Dr. Vlha, and VNA Hospice. Our most heartfelt thanks to all who made her life at Passavant so special. She leaves behind her close friends, Jim and Diane Boffo; her niece, Marjory (Philip) Greenisen; a great-niece, Cheryl (Mike) Molnar; and a great-nephew, Matthew Greenisen. At Ruth's request there was no visitation or service. WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, INC., of Rochester handled arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Passavant Community Benevolent Care, 105 Burgess Drive, Zelienople, PA 16063.
